Wave Rock

This weekend we've decided to go on another trip. Our goal is Wave Rock. It is situated near a small town called Hyden located about 350 km from Perth. While this is far away enough, but despite everything, we decided to do this trip in one day without an overnight stay. There is in fact nothing much to see on the way there, so we've considered this and decided like this. I prefer to make more of these one day trips if possible, and also we can save some money by not having to spend the nights somewhere.
In the morning the alarm clock woke us up almost the same time as we wake up for work, we packed the car full with some food and drink and we started around half past seven. Day was very nice, the sun was shining beautifully all morning. Our first stop was the city - or better said a small town or even better just a couple of houses:)) -  called York. Once you get out of Perth, everything has suddenly changed. It is called here 'outback'. And it is really so. Nothing but the never-ending fields. So we are officially in the country side. There are no districts, but so called "shire". So at first we entered the Shire of York. York is quite pleasant small town, we stopped here for a moment to look around. The city center is actually just one street where the town hall, a few hotels, cafes and restaurants are. The next parallel street has the church and a market and that was everything. The rest were only houses from local people. But everything here is very clean, we were very surprised by the quality of the public toilets, there were tissues everywhere, also liquid soap and paper towels. It seems that they really look after it.
After a moment of rest we get into the car and continue our journey. Time is running pretty fast, but we do not have anything else to see along the route. Here it is really an outback. One can realize this only when one come and see it for himself. The distance from Perth to Wave Rock is 350 km. And now, imagine that along the way you meet only a few cars and you pass only through two small villages. And just about everywhere you see only fields and farms. Therefore, I really liked the fact that the drivers greets each other - they wave their hand when they pass along. Probably because of the oncoming car passes only once a while, it's also encouraging that we are not completely alone.
Our second stop is only a few minutes away from the small town of Corrigin. And that's only because we've found it in a travel book. There is really nothing except a dog cemetery. Yes, you see well. Local people have some very huge love for their four-legged pet, so they made quite a large cemetery. So because we went around it, we stopped, made one photo and we went further. Sometimes they really do attraction here from every silly thing. But if the people go here, so why not. From here, we have almost continued right into Hyden. Well, to be completely accurate, we have made a stop at this lake down the road from where it supposed be a nice view, it looks like that tourist guide made a small mistake here. There was nothing to look at, so we just had a lunch there.
In the afternoon, around one, we finally arrived to Hyden, from where it is only a short walk to Wave Rock. This is really nothing but a dead place. Such big that here is even no mobile reception. Here it is very strange. We live in a civilized world but suddenly nothing really works.

There was a phone booth if something would happen  but we truly have to get used to a habit of traveling in an outback and to the fact that any time something can happen and we will end up with no signal on the phone. And I truly don't want to thing about what would happened if our car would have broken somewhere here. Really I do not know how we would deal with it, but I suppose people here are very nice and certainly someone would stop by us and helped ... well at least I hope;)
We made here a few photos and quickly got in the car for the last few miles directly to the Wave Rock. Journey did not last longer than ten minutes. We arrived just in time, before all the tourist tours that go here also only for a one-day trip from Perth. We quickly parked the car and went to see the bick rock. The rock looks like one giant sea wave, we can only hope that it won't decide to break and fall on us right now. Also, we thought that it will only be one lonely rock, but it is in fact a huge massive rock and the water and wind shaped the part of it into a wave.
Further attractions that we've seen were not worth much. But when we are here now and traveled for so long what else could we do. Next to Wave Rock, a few minutes walk form there is another rock in the shape of yawning hippos mouth, it was still pretty interesting.
On the way back from the park, we stopped at the local Wildlife Park where they had but mostly just different types of parrots and other birds. From other beasts worth noting there was just one koala which still just sleeps and doesn't talk so much:) and few kangaroos, two donkeys (I do not mean us, so watch out for it) and two camels. And since Slavka has already been in a much larger park in Perth while I was in New Zealand, it's not fun for her, and I'm not very surprised. So we quickly ran around the last several cages and then we left for the the latest attraction on the list - Mulka's Cave, where there is a unique ancient Aborigines paintings. After half an hour drive we arrived here with enthusiastic, but there was nothing waiting for us but disappointment. Cave was actually just a hole in the rock and instead of beautiful paintings we saw just a fingerprint of a big hand. It is possible that the fingerprints are very rare and valuable, but for us it was truly not a great experience.
The day is coming to an end, the evening came, and so we just went on our way home. This time we went on just right to Perth. Driving in the evening and after dark here is dangerous enough, not because of cars, but kangaroos. All roads are lined with dead kangaroos, which are likely to jump in the night in front of the wheel. I wouldn't like to meet one of them this nigh, it would neither go well for kangaroo nor for our car. So I was quite pleased to see another car in our way and so we traveled together at least half the way home. The rest also went without problems and so we happily arrived home around nine.
